Caffeine: A Heart-Friendly Habit?
Caffeine often gets a bad rap, but it might be more heart-friendly than you think. According to a recent review by the American Heart Association, consuming up to 400 milligrams of caffeine daily—equivalent to about three to five cups of regular black coffee—can be generally safe for most adults. This amount of caffeine might even be associated with reduced risks of heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and Type 2 diabetes.
However, not all caffeine sources are created equal. While your morning brew might be beneficial, highly concentrated energy drinks and caffeine shots could have adverse effects. These potent beverages can significantly increase blood pressure and may lead to irregular heart rhythms.
