In California, a Plan to Help Wildlife Cross a Busy Freeway

The 101 freeway in California bisects a mountainous region where threatened cougars and other animals are blocked without a viable path across 10 lanes of heavily trafficked roadway. But an ambitious 210-foot “vegetated bridge” will soon be home to what organizers say is the largest wildlife crossing anywhere in the world.
