{"id":114,"date":"2026-04-24T19:30:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T19:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bkbc.net\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/fcc-says-ban-on-foreign-made-routers-includes-portable-wi-fi-hotspots\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T19:30:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T19:30:14","slug":"fcc-says-ban-on-foreign-made-routers-includes-portable-wi-fi-hotspots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bkbc.net\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/fcc-says-ban-on-foreign-made-routers-includes-portable-wi-fi-hotspots\/","title":{"rendered":"FCC: Router ban includes portable hotspots, but not phones with hotspot features"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The Federal Communications Commission clarified this week that its sweeping ban on foreign-made consumer routers also affects portable hotspot devices.<\/p>\n<p>The FCC added a new section to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/faqs-recent-updates-fcc-covered-list-regarding-routers-produced-foreign-countries\">FAQ<\/a> titled, &#8220;Is my device a consumer-grade router under the National Security Determination?&#8221; The new FAQ section says this category includes &#8220;consumer-grade portable or mobile MiFi Wi-Fi or hotspot devices for residential use.&#8221; The ban does not cover &#8220;mobile phones with hotspot features,&#8221; the FAQ says.<\/p>\n<p>This means that companies making consumer hotspots need an exemption from the government to import and sell any future hotspots that haven&#8217;t previously been approved by the FCC.
